James Matthew Dowd, 74, died February 9, 2010, at his home in Yonkers of natural causes. Jim was born January 24, 1936, in New York City to Bartholomew and Nora Dowd. He grew up in the Kingsbridge section of the Bronx and attended St. John’s Elementary School, Cardinal Hayes High School and St. John’s University.  He retired from NYNEX Corporation in 1993, where he worked for almost 20 years. The consummate volunteer, Jim donated his time to many organizations over the years including CYO, St. Eugene's Parish Council, Armour Villa Colony and the Transplant Support Organization of Westchester.  His quick wit and warm sense of humor will be missed dearly by those who knew and loved him. He is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Carol, his loving children James and his wife JoAnne, Aileen and her husband Jeffrey Brill and Marybeth and her husband Craig Jones, as well as his adoring grandsons James Dowd and Connor Brill and beloved brother Thomas Dowd.  He was predeceased by his dear brother and sister, John Dowd and Helen Whyte. A wake will be held at Fred H. McGrath & Son Funeral Home, Bronxville on Saturday, February 13, from 5pm – 8pm and Sunday, February 14, from 1pm – 5pm.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Joseph’s Church in Bronxville on Monday, February 15 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in Mr. Dowd’s name to the Transplant Support Organization, 1154 Webster Avenue, New Rochelle, NY 10804.
